The climate

November to April is summer in the southern hemisphere.

Dry and hot in all the country from November to mid-December. Temperatures are between 26 to 30°C in the middle of the Island, 30 to 32°C on the east side and 30 to 36°C on the west side. The south and south-west can go above 40°C in the shade is regions such as Maevatanana (Majunga) and Bezaha Mahafaly (south).

Rainy and hot between mid-December and march, thunderstorms are common all over the island and at the end of the afternoon.

February to April is cyclone season. Madagascar is in an Inter-tropical convergence Zone. This period (especially April) is the end of summer in the southern hemisphere and winter in Europe. Cool air comes down from northern hemisphere, while warm air rise from the south. These different waves of air meet in Inter-tropical Convergence Zone, bringing low atmospheric pressure or Cyclones. A cycle of about 10-12 years has been noticed when cyclones are more violent than usual. Of recent times, Kamisy of 1984 totally destroyed Majunga, Géralda of 1994 had a diameter of 800km with winds of more than 200km/h bringing devastation everywhere except for the north. Then we had Elita and Gafilo in 2004.

June, July, August, this the Southern winter.

Cold weather in the Highlands (Antananarivo, Antsirabe, Fianarantsoa).

Morning: below 10°C on average (below 0°C around Antsirabe, and less than -7°C in the region of Andringitra) with fog and some rain .

during the day, sunny, between 18°C and 20°C

cooler during the evening (12 to 15°C)

Morning drizzle and fog in the Highlands.

In the deep south, mornings are cold (8 to 10°C) especially beside the sea

Warm and dry during the day (24-28°C), maybe rainy in Fort Dauphin

Equally warm and dry for Nosy be at the north,(24-28°C), but can be windy if you are at sea (the Mitsio Archipely).

We suggest you to wear warm clothes during the morning and the evening and lighter clothes during the day.

Intermediate Seasons: May and September are definitely the best months to visit madagascar.

In May everything is green, the rice fields are in a wonderful bright green, it is not too warm, not too cold. In September, winter is leaving and the summer is not yet in, so the temperature is pleasant.
